Frequently Asked Questions

Spiritual Counseling FAQ

What is spiritual counseling?

Spiritual counseling is counseling held within a spiritual perspective. It offers space to talk honestly about what is happening in your life while also listening for the deeper meaning, guidance, and healing available beneath the surface.

This work can support individuals, couples, parents, and caregivers who are navigating relationship challenges, anxiety, grief, life transitions, parenting concerns, or a longing for greater connection with themselves, others, and the Divine.

How does spiritual counseling work?

Each session begins with a short guided meditation called The Practice of Alignment. This helps you settle, soften the surface-level mind, and reconnect with your heart, your inner knowing, and the deeper stream of guidance within your life.

From there, we talk about what is happening, what you are feeling, and where healing is needed. At times, I may invite you to close your eyes, place a hand on your heart, breathe, or listen inwardly. Sometimes there are revelations. Sometimes there is simply relief, steadiness, or a little more light.

My role is to help you feel recognized, supported, and gently guided as we explore what is asking for healing.

How is spiritual counseling different from therapy?

The work we do together can be deep, meaningful, and full of self-knowledge, but I do not describe it as therapy or psychotherapy because I am not a licensed therapist, psychotherapist, or licensed mental health counselor.

I hold a Master’s in Education and have master’s-level training and many years of experience supporting individuals, couples, parents, and families. My work is best described as counseling held within a spiritual perspective.

Unlike traditional therapy, this work explicitly includes spiritual practice, inner guidance, meditation, and connection with the Divine, by whatever name feels comfortable to you. Because of this, I use different language to describe the journey my clients enter.

Do you take insurance?

No. I do not take insurance.

I choose not to work through insurance because insurance generally requires diagnoses, notes, treatment plans, and decisions about medical necessity. I prefer to keep this work private, spacious, and guided by the needs of the client rather than the requirements of an insurance company.

What does spiritual counseling cost?

Sessions are 60 minutes. Individual sessions are $150, and couples sessions are $200.

If this is beyond your reach, please discuss it with me. I wish that no one who is truly guided to this work be denied. In my experience, the financial exchange is also part of the energetic exchange that supports both the client and the practitioner.

Most clients keep a credit card on file, and I charge the card after each session and send a receipt by email. If you prefer, I can also send a Square payment link before the session. I do ask for a card on file for late cancellations or missed appointments.

Where are you located?

I see clients in person at my home office on a beautiful wooded hillside in Leverett, Massachusetts. I also work online through Zoom or FaceTime.

My office is in Western Massachusetts, near Amherst and Northampton, and I work virtually with clients nationwide.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. I offer online sessions by Zoom or FaceTime. Online work can be a good option if you live farther away, have a busy schedule, or simply feel more comfortable meeting from your own space.

What are your hours?

I generally see clients on weekdays between 9 am and 7 pm Eastern Time. Evening availability may vary.

Do you work with couples?

Yes. Couples work is an important part of my practice.

I work with couples who are caught in painful patterns, repeated arguments, distance, resentment, or fear that the relationship may not survive. Together, we slow things down and listen beneath the conflict so each person can feel heard, understood, and more able to respond from love rather than defensiveness.

Couples counseling can help partners rebuild trust, deepen communication, and reconnect with the love that brought them together.

Do you work with parents and families?

Yes. I support parents and families who are navigating conflict, worry, changing family dynamics, or the desire to parent from a more conscious and spiritually grounded place.

This work can help you slow down, listen more deeply, and respond to family challenges with greater clarity, compassion, and steadiness.

Do you offer caregiver and grief support?

Yes. I offer spiritual counseling for caregivers, grief, and major life transitions.

This work supports people caring for loved ones, facing illness or loss, or moving through emotionally tender transitions. It is not medical care, crisis care, or assisted-dying support. It is emotional and spiritual support for people seeking steadiness, meaning, and compassion during difficult passages.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being billed for the session.

If you do not show up, you are responsible for the session, as I have set aside that time for you. If I can accommodate you at a different time that week, I will usually do so as a courtesy to help you avoid being billed for a missed session.

How long until it starts to get better?

Every person and every relationship is different. In general, the improvements that come through counseling build on one another over time.

Many people feel some hope or relief after the first session, followed by peaks and valleys as the work deepens. It is wise to plan on committing several months to the process.

For couples, I often recommend expecting 8 to 20 sessions to create a more sustained shift, depending on the challenges you are facing and how much time and practice you can devote to the process.

What does counseling held within a spiritual perspective feel like?

It can feel like the relief of laying down your burdens.

Your problems may not be solved all at once, but with attention to the process, life can begin to feel more bearable, more connected, and more filled with light. You may feel more compassion for your struggles, gain new insight into why things hurt as much as they do, and discover new ways to meet old patterns.

And if it does not feel that way, it needs to be okay for you to say so. The connection between client and counselor matters deeply, and this work depends on safety, honesty, and trust.

Are you LGBTQ friendly?

Absolutely.

I have experience working with people in the LGBTQ community. I believe we are all souls here to learn, grow, and love, and that we do this with whomever we feel called to love.

What’s stopping me from calling?

You do not have to know exactly what to say. You do not have to explain everything perfectly. You can simply leave your name and number, and I will reach out from there.

Calling puts you under no obligation. It is simply a way to begin, ask questions, and see whether this work feels right for you.
